Eagle Lake
Description
Upon approach, the single-storey, 1000 sq. ft. cottage emerges subtly within a densely treed site, characterized by its low profile and natural cladding. The untouched landscape, split by a serene stream feeding Eagle Lake, adds to the site’s inherent charm. The cottage comprises two distinct pods, elegantly clad in white cedar siding and natural granite, paying homage to its surroundings.
Designed to harmonize with nature, the low-sloped roof and minimalistic structure blend seamlessly into the forest edge, creating a subtle presence. A previously cleared driveway guides visitors along a natural path adjacent to the stream, leading to a mid-site opening. The dwelling is slightly raised above the natural grade, forming a protected platform overlooking the stream. The two pods, connected by a flat-roofed link, offer a spacious feel within the compact floor plan.
Natural materials, including grey accent fenestrations, integrate the cottage with its environment. Stone steps lead to a covered front entry, flanked by a mulch garden and granite boulders, enhancing the natural landscape. The landscape design aims to reintroduce native trees and ground cover, further integrating the structure with its surroundings. The cottage’s alignment with the stream and the raised build site ensure protection from potential flooding.
Inside, the space is efficiently utilized, featuring a full kitchen with island seating, white oak cladding, lime wash accents, and heated concrete floors. A granite-clad wood-burning stove serves as the centerpiece of the living area. The primary bedroom offers tranquil stream views, and the ensuite combines Japandi aesthetics with luxurious materials, including a granite-wrapped soaker tub and a waterproof micro cement shower. The overall design emphasizes a seamless connection with nature, providing a peaceful retreat in harmony with its environment
